Sales & Design Consultant (Portland)

Training starts January 2017

California Closets is currently hiring experienced sales & design professionals for our Sales & Design Consultant position. California Closets is the original innovator in-home, custom designed storage solutions. Through 30+ years, we have grown from in-home closets to all areas of the home and business. This is an excellent opportunity for unique, innovative design professionals with experience in sales.

Our local territory covers Portland, and as far north as Longview, WA, out to the entire Oregon coast, and as far south as Ashland, OR. Although the MAJORITY of our clientele live within a 45-60 minute radius of Portland, it can be a much longer drive to some of our furthest cities we service (can be as far as Ashland on occasional basis).

California Closets has been serving the Portland area since 1987. Our business has been rapidly growing and we are excited to add new members to our team.

  • FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE
    Schedule requirements are a set minimum 2 full weekend days/month, 2 evenings/week, and 1 day/week. You are welcome to open up your schedule as much as you would like for the greatest opportunities. Occasional home shows and Design Studio shifts are mixed into that schedule (design studio shifts paid hourly), as well as mandatory company and monthly sales meetings. You are also required to meet with our Production staff in Tualatin to review jobs to be installed to ensure our greatest possibility for success.

    Sales & Design Consultants are commissioned employees, allowing them to earn their desired income through their talent and hard work. California Closets provides benefit pay (medical and 401k match), some expense reimbursements, cell phone, extensive initial (paid) and on-going training, and many performance bonus opportunities. Design Studio shifts are paid hourly.

EXPECTATIONS OF THE POSITION:
Our clients expect us to be the best; expectations of performance in this position are high. The following is a brief overview of what is expected in this position:

  • LISTENING SKILLS
    Listening skills are the top skill set of this position. We do not ‘hard sell’ our clients. We are only there to give them what they need and desire based on what they tell us. If we are not the best solution for them, we tell them that. Otherwise we listen to their needs; we provide the best solution based on that information.
  • SELF-DRIVE AND PRIDE IN YOUR WORK
    It is expected that you will make time and financial investments in your own education and opportunities to provide service that exceeds your client’s expectations.
  • TIME MANAGEMENT AND SELF-PROMOTION
    Due to the nature of the position, you often operate to some extent as ‘self-employed’. Your time is not micromanaged and you are responsible for communicating in a timely and efficient manner with our clients and your co-workers. You will need to self-promote yourself through a Personal Marketing Plan, created with Sales Management.
  • ORGANIZATION
    It is critical that Sales & Design Consultants are organized in their paperwork and client files. We use a California Closets exclusive client database and a proprietary 3dCAD program. You are responsible for accurately creating designs and communicating those designs with the production part of our business. Through clear, concise drawings and communication, we deliver our customer’s expectations accurately.
  • DESIGN SKILL
    This is a sales position which requires spatial concepts and the ability to create a beautiful end result for our clients. We design entertainment centers, offices, bookshelves, craft rooms, and many other spaces that are visible within a home or office. It is critical that function is the # 1 priority with design in our business, with aesthetically pleasing details.
  • BASIC TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
    As noted above, we use a 3d computer program to generate designs. This requires a personal laptop and the skill set to create files and transfer information electronically. Applicants with experience using design software (ie. graphic design) have an appropriate skill set to learn more quickly the design aspects of the position, although it is not required. Basic computer operating skills is a must though, which would include skills such as attaching files, creating PDF files, and organizing document folders.
  • TRAVEL
    There is a lot of driving in this position, as we visit clients at their location. You could easily spend 1-3 hours in your car on a day where you are scheduled for new appointments. You will need a well-maintained vehicle for this position. You will work out of various locations, including your home. You are welcome to work out of any of our locations as much as you would like though! You will spend several hours per day in client’s home and on the road.We are looking for driven individuals with experience in sales and design. This position requires you to be able to be successful independently, but within a team atmosphere and support.

THIS POSITION STARTS: January 2017. Training will be 4-6 weeks, paid base salary; commission after training.
