A Statement Library for a Louisville Couple
What They Wanted
Boasting a 25-foot ceiling, the room Claudia and David McClure hoped to transform into their private library already had impressive potential. To achieve their vision, the couple collaborated with California Closets design consultant Emerald Feland on a custom design that also provided prominent display space for their book and art collections.
My design was very much inspired by the McClure's beautifully-curated, Renaissance-style sculptures and artwork.
How we did it
To achieve a more intimate environment, Emerald worked on a design that would beautifully balance the cathedral-like feeling evoked by the room's high ceiling and large, light-filled windows. The placement of the library systems around the fireplace instantly created an inviting focal point, while the dark finish added warmth and richness. Emerald’s design also included a ladder for functionality, as well as decorative puck lighting to strikingly showcase the couple’s varied collections, especially at night!
Emerald really listened and working with her was easy and enjoyable. She achieved the library design my husband and I envisioned.
The thoughtful and sophisticated system shows how custom design can reimagine and elevate otherwise standard shelving. Precise craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and proper lighting all contributed to the stunning library transformation.
