Inside the closet-slash-content studio of LadySpineDoc (aka Dr. Betsy Grunch)

What Betsy Grunch wanted
Neurosurgeon Betsy Grunch, known to millions on social media as LadySpineDoc, collects more than just colorful scrubs and TikTok followers: she has approximately 200 sneakers (and counting). So when she decided to convert the primary bathroom into her dream dressing room, she reached out to California Closets Atlanta for expert help to accommodate her massive collection. “My closet had cramped shelving, a jumbled sneaker pile, and no space. I’d reached the point where getting dressed in the morning was crazy. I needed help.”
As a social media influencer educating the layperson on the brain and spine, Betsy also needed a place that could serve as the set for her content creation. To create a double-duty luxurious dressing room and filming backdrop, her design consultant, Niya Jimenez, needed to carefully consider visual presentation, flow, and camera-friendly sightlines. Ultimately, the goal was to create a highly customized space that felt both elevated and effortlessly functional.
“While the design process followed the same client-focused approach we use on every project, the scale, complexity, and level of customization made this one especially memorable.”

How California Closets designed it
To start, Niya dove into Betsy’s vision, daily routine, and storage needs. A comprehensive inventory of her clothing and accessories ensured every item would have a place in the final design. “We documented clothing categories, handbags, jewelry, and accessories, allowing the storage plan to be tailored specifically to her lifestyle,” notes Niya.
Because the space was being completely reimagined from bathroom to luxury walk-in, extensive planning and collaboration were required before construction began. Working closely with the builder and interior designer, Niya held coordinated critical details including cabinet heights, storage depths, electrical placement, lighting design, ceiling treatments, and architectural elements. Addressing these decisions early ensured a seamless installation and a cohesive final closet.

Sneakers became a defining feature of the space. To showcase the extensive collection, Niya designed a dramatic floor-to-ceiling shoe wall that immediately captures your attention. The combination of storage and a striking design statement makes an impressive moment on-screen and in real life.
Because the room also functions as a filming studio, every detail was planned with content creation in mind. The center island was positioned to maintain comfortable circulation while providing an ideal viewing distance from the sneaker display wall. The layout, proportions, and focal points support both everyday use and professional-quality video content.
“This space just gets me… down to every detail, from the shoe wall to my glasses and all the scrubs. Obsessed is an understatement.”

Final result
This project is a true reflection of how thoughtful planning and personalization can transform a space. Through close collaboration with the client, builder, and interior designer, every detail was intentionally executed, from the architectural planning to the lighting design and storage functionality. “Stop thinking of it as ‘just a closet’ and start thinking of it as time back in your day. It’s genuinely one of the best investments I’ve made in my own home,” reflects Betsy. By converting a former bathroom into a custom dressing room, we created a one-of-a-kind environment tailored specifically to Betsy’s wardrobe, routine, and professional needs — including all those scrubs and sneakers.
