A walk-in that blends elegant storage solutions with innovative features

What Lacey Knight wanted
As a content creator, Lacey Knight spends a significant amount of time in her closet, not only planning outfits but also filming content for social media. An existing builder-grade walk-in with a single rod and shelf offered limited organization and very little visual appeal as a backdrop. She needed a system that could accommodate her rotating collections while keeping everything accessible and camera-ready. “Our primary closet had such great space, but it wasn’t being utilized to its fullest potential.”
Not only did it need to pull double duty as storage and scenery, it also needed to serve two people. Sharing the space meant her husband’s needs were equally important. He needed substantial hanging while Lacey wanted jewelry storage, a hidden laundry hamper, and an area for filming. So Lacey turned to California Closets of Austin.
“Amanda took my inspiration pictures and not only brought my vision to life, but she also gave some advice on how to make it even better!”

How California Closets designed it
Designer Amanda Chambers approached the project with a focus on balancing beauty and utility. To complement the home's style and ensure long-term value, she selected a crisp white finish and classic gold hardware that would feel timeless for years to come. The plans carefully addressed both Lacey's and her husband's storage requirements. Ample hanging was integrated throughout, along with custom drawers and specialized organization for accessories and jewelry. Every element was designed to improve efficiency without sacrificing style.

One of the most impactful design decisions centered around the room's focal point: a stunning mirror feature. What began as a practical challenge became an opportunity for innovation. The closet contained a large electrical panel that needed to remain accessible but was visually disruptive. Amanda designed a custom mirrored door that cleverly concealed the panel and added additional storage around it.
“My favorite feature is the mirrored door. It captivates the whole space!”

Final result
The new walk-in closet is a seamless blend of style and performance, delivering everything Lacey hoped to achieve. The space now feels thoughtfully organized, highly functional, and beautiful from every angle. What was once underperforming is now a polished retreat that functions beautifully for both Lacey and her husband and reflects Lacey's creative lifestyle. She adds, “We considered doing this project ourselves and making it a DIY… I am so incredibly glad we did not do that!”
