From awkward space to double-duty beauty
What the client wanted
After moving into a larger home to fit their growing family, blogger LauRen Merola and husband Dallas were thrilled with the additional square footage yet found themselves perplexed by an extra room off the primary bedroom. With awkward, sloped walls and a rectangular shape, they were unsure what to do with it — until they realized they needed more space for LauRen’s wardrobe. Envisioning it as a new dressing room, they called on California Closets Charlotte to create a custom design that would optimize the room’s challenging architecture with fully functional storage.

How California Closets designed it
When her design consultant Morgan Haynie showed up, she had a tape measure in hand, ready to tackle the tricky space. Morgan measured the entire room, assessed the sloped walls, and took stock of a beautiful window — which she knew should become the focal point. Knowing LauRen wanted to maximize hanging space, Morgan also designed shelves with open storage above and hanging rods beneath that hit comfortably beneath the slope. To enhance the window, Morgan framed it with shelving and drawer units to house LauRen’s shoes and bags. A window seat offered the perfect finishing touch, tying the entire design together while also providing LauRen and Dallas a comfortable spot to enjoy their outdoor view.
