Small space, big impact for celebrity makeup artist Daisy Toye

What Daisy Toye wanted
Celebrity makeup artist Daisy Toye is known for making her celebrity clientele, like Martha Stewart, look great. Unfortunately, for the frequent traveler, mom, and future Real Housewife of New York City, her first attempt at a closet re-do with another company didn’t look so great. After that storage system failed to make the most of her limited real estate, she decided it was time to create a space that could keep up with her wardrobe and her lifestyle.
With her Season 16 The Real Housewives of New York City debut around the corner, she called California Closets to address the long-standing personal frustration. Located just inside the apartment entry and bedroom, her pair of small closets needed to accommodate coats, outerwear, and Daisy’s everyday essentials, yet the layouts lacked the thoughtful organization the space required. No matter how much she tried to tidy things up, the existing system made it difficult to see or access what she owned — or even close the closet doors. Enter California Closets New York City.

“When we first saw the space, the biggest issue was that the previous system wasn’t designed for how Daisy actually lives. Once we rethought the layout and customized each section, the closets instantly felt more functional and much more beautiful.”

How California Closets designed it
Working with two compact reach-in closets, design consultant Kelly Parham focused on maximizing every inch while prizing visual simplicity. Each section was carefully customized to support Daisy’s wardrobe and daily routine, from expanded hanging space, including stacked rods, to precisely arranged shoe shelving. Higher, narrow-height shelves extend to the ceiling to store lesser-used items, so more frequently worn pieces stay within easy reach. The design even made room for a dedicated scarf drawer — a year-round accessory for any City dweller.
Aesthetically, a light, wood grain finish paired with matte gold hardware and accessories keeps the overall look bright, modern, and polished. The new spaces complement the rest of the apartment’s décor while maintaining Daisy’s vision for storage that feels streamlined and serene.

“It’s not just a closet upgrade — it’s an everyday quality-of-life upgrade. The investment is so worth it for how calm and functional your space becomes.”
