Custom Closets for a New Jersey Couple’s Forever Home

What They Wanted
Over the years, Kris and Tom Caravela have created a home they love. With their discerning taste, the couple wanted boutique-inspired custom closets that offered both thoughtful storage and display areas. Separated by a shared bathroom, each custom space needed to feel refined and personal.
How we did it
To achieve the level of custom detail they desired, the couple worked with design consultant Shellie Topper of California Closets of California Closets of Northern New Jersey.
For his space, Tom decided on a more dramatic finish palette, complete with graphite hardware and buffalo grey leather drawer faces.
For a brighter, more feminine look, Kris selected a complementary mix of lighter finishes, leather shagreen drawer faces and gold hardware.
Both of Shellie’s floor-to-ceiling designs included glass and mirrored doors for a balance of both elegant concealed storage and display spaces for favorite items including shoes, purses, and a baseball cap collection.
Lighting in both closets also added a dimension and a touch of glamour.
Kris was fantastic to work with. She had a vision of what the space should look and feel like, and then together we collaborated to make it come to life.
final result
Although separate and unique, each closet’s sophisticated features and dramatic lighting make the spaces feel cohesive.
For Tom and Kris, they each have the storage they need and the retreats they hoped for.
