Dwell on Design Show 2014

At the Dwell on Design show at the Los Angeles Convention Center, local and national designers and national brands showcase new home furnishing and décor of all styles.

At a show this large, there is always a great deal of creative vision to absorb. Exquisite tiles, modern furniture and lighting, as well as traditional pieces and re-engineered materials were featured throughout the show. There was even a full section of kitchen and bath activations that included cooking demonstrations and utilization of new appliances within the build-outs.

One category that was most fascinating to me were the many full-size prefab home builds in the Dwell Outdoor section of the show.

Inspiration abounds when you walk through these prefab homes. A realization hits that you can imagine your home being built anywhere, from the breathtaking mountains of the Rockies to a beachside retreat.

These homes offer such flexibility, and contain some great amenities that I was surprised to see.

These units were brought in, installed, and were fully operational to illustrate how beautiful and detailed these prefab homes can be. Functional kitchens in a small footprint that shared open space with the living/dining area made the most out of minimal square footage. The units on the floor presented single sleeping quarters from just a few hundred square feet as well as two bedroom units which felt large and roomy.

Lastly, were the many options shown for mobile outdoor living. Of course, the iconic Airstream was featured with all the comforts of home – a coffee maker, queen size bed, and beautiful use of rich woods for paneling. Hidden storage and multi-functionality of space abounds in this sophisticated travel trailer.

Another great example of small mobile living was shown by Sprouting Sprocket Studio called the Hutte Hut. A spectacular example of a mini-sized stylish trailer system that was quite comfortable for two people on the inside. This would make a wonderful addition to any summer cross-country excursion.

As always, we were left inspired by the design, wonderful use of materials, and creative passion that was on display at the show.
