Before & After: Classic and Stylish Walk-In Closet

I recently worked with a design-savvy client who is a busy project coordinator for a large media communications company in Toronto.

She wanted to update her poorly designed walk-in closet. The ad hoc storage solutions didn't function well in the narrow space and were an uninspired attempt at space planning.

It was time for a change.

BEFORE: My client's walk-in closet: Uninspired design and a poor use of space.

Goals and Design

She wanted to make this narrow closet a better looking and more well designed space. It was important that all the elements reflected her inventory needs, but also that it made a simple yet stylish statement.

I deliberately designed a closet that immediately changed the proportions of this smallish walk-in. My intent was to make the space feel more bold, contemporary, and visually expansive.

Sometimes the best solutions are the simplest.

White can be the perfect material color to emphasize a well organized, practical, and artfully curated space. The high contrast wall color was a confident choice made by the homeowner, who decided the dramatic paint color was a great expression of her own developed design sense.

DURING: My client opted for a deep ebony paint color to offset the silver carpet and classic white system.

AFTER: The bold paint color combined with the white finish creates a stylish look. The new design optimizes every inch of the small closet's space.

AFTER: My client's belongings are organized and easy to access in her new custom walk-in closet.

She was very, very happy with the end results, and immediately wanted to share her better designed walk-in closet with other avid California Closets blog readers.

She even documented the entire process by taking the great pictures you see above, telling the whole story from start to finish. Brilliant!
