Design of The Month, by Monika Kerstens
What is the Design of the Month?
Each month, California Closets Northern California highlights an exceptional design by one of our stellar Design Consultants. The Design of the Month isn't necessarily the biggest or most impressive storage system. Sometimes it's a creative solution for a tricky configuration. Sometimes it will feature a design wrinkle we haven't seen before. There are no hard and fast rules.
In the end, you can be sure that every Design of the Month has one thing in common: that it serves and delights the customer, first and foremost.
This month's design is by Monika Kerstens. Here is her design in her own words.
The Customer's Vision
My customer moved to a loft-like space where storage was limited. Prior to this project, California Closets had designed and installed her master bedroom closet in a Tuscan Moon finish, but she needed more space for her shoes, a dresser for folded items, and an additional wardrobe in a second space.
The depth of the wall adjacent to the bathroom dictated the depth of the shoe storage.
We could not go deeper than 12" with the doors included. The space was 105" tall and therefore we had to stack the system, to achieve the look of a built-in system. The cabinet had slanted shelves inside and each section was approx. 21” wide. The cabinet could accommodate at least 60 pairs of shoes.
She had worked with us before and was looking for clean, minimalist designs without spending too much as she moves homes frequently.
