Design of the Month Contest : Sept/Oct Winner

The Sept/Oct 2012 Design of the month winner is pictured above. This month our winning design was the Executive Home Office by Rustin Higbee. This design features Tapai Bamboo with an Artika Finish, from our new line of textured melamine to create a high end product that exudes the sophistication, warmth and comfort of natural wood. The doors and drawer fronts are done with a Picasso Style 5-Piece Shaker with brushed chrome appliance handles and Matte Lux Frosted Glass inserts. The key feature and focal point which adds excitement and intrigue to this piece is the back splash featuring Eco-Resin Thatch Inserts. The executive desk layout features a U-shape design and is custom fit with a Glossy White Finish on a Thermofoil Suface with curves and seamless edges.

A word from Rustin on how the winning Design came together:

"When Cara and I first began the process of designing her office space, she had expressed her frustration with the current selections of modular desks on the market. My challenge with this design was to make a desk that had never been seen before. Cara wanted her office desk to be ultra-modern with sleek lines and interest throughout the entire piece. My task was to design something that was not only interesting to look at but also to preserve the function required for an at home office.

"Our main organizing obstacles were the windows on the right wall. Cara didn’t want to cover the windows which had sills well below a comfortable counter height. Our solution was the U-shape desk to create a passage line to the windows, which also opened up the opportunity to create some additional storage to the right of the desk. The challenge to the U-shape when it’s not up against the wall is support. We added a file drawer base cabinet to support the end and table legs to support the outside center."

"The install was made a bit more complicated due to the added accent lighting above each upper cubby and light strip above the work surface. In order to make the lighting work without cords hanging everywhere, our installers meticulously grooved light channels in all the backing where cords had to be routed to access the only outlet on the wall. After all the extra effort was put into play, we were able to provide my Client with an aesthetically pleasing yet functional office space."

Comments from Rustin's Clients:

" Before California Closet's came, our office was very plain, unorganized and visually unappealing to want to sit down and do work in. Now it is very stylish, functional and organized. I spend a lot of time at my desk. I now look more forward to my workday knowing that I have a really cool office to work in. "

"Rustin was great to work with. Very professional, friendly and takes a lot of pride in his work. He listened, was patient and followed-up with me right away with designs and bids. I made some last minute changes where he had to go back and redo some of the design and he was very happy to make the changes."
