Q&A with Ginny: European Design Trends
Our chief design officer Ginny Snook Scott travels throughout the U.S. and to the Milan Furniture Fair every year seeking out innovative and stylish design trends.
European trends in design continue to inspire her - and influence the products that California Closets offers to our clients.
We interviewed Ginny on the hottest European trends that are influencing our custom closet designs throughout North America.
This California Closets luxury walk-in combines light and dark tones with textured finishes for a sophisticated look.
Q: What color trends have you been seeing lately from European designers?
GSS: A developing trend is the concept of combining warm wood tones and light wood tones, without making the contrast too stark.
For example, designing with Walnut and white finishes or Umbrian Oak (a light wood grain) and Cappuccino (a rich chocolate finish).
We’re also noticing a lot of bright, fresh fruit colors such as tangerine, lime, and frosted raspberry!
Q: How about the use of textures?
Textures bring more of a sensory experience to installed products such as cabinetry, doors, and countertops.
The mixture of our Bellissima White and Venetian Wenge finishes create a dramatic effect in this California Closets media center.
What's really exciting is the movement towards more variations in the thickness and dimensions of doors and drawers.Surfaces appear to jut out even though they're on the same plane.
A low profile door abutting a high profile door creates an effective design flourish with only a simple change.
Depths, heights, and thicknesses of shelving can all create visual interest.

Q: How are these design trends influencing California Closets design?
GSS: Our clients want to bring more style into their home and minimize the amount of furniture they’re purchasing.
Splashes of Green Apple add a cheerful quality to this elegant walk-in closet.
Our clients can enjoy designs that accommodate specific functional needs and also create visual presence in the room.
A California Closets custom solution means that you can bring the style and fashion of Milan into any space in your home, while still fulfilling a very utilitarian purpose, from closets and pantries to home offices and entertainment centers.
