VISION
As the leader of the industry, we embrace our responsibility to the environment and our customers. We fulfill our responsibility through our commitment to meet or exceed regulatory requirements in our business practices, and seek out partners who embrace our sustainability vision.
In 2010, we will deliver a Sustainability Foundations training program for all employees. We will develop and implement a supplier scorecard, and do business with suppliers that carry green certified products. We will institute further sustainable practices, and will introduce a variety of greener products.
By 2011, we will conduct a carbon footprint assessment of the company in order to set goals for reducing our environmental impact. We will also survey customers to discover what the most meaningful green initiatives are to them.
LEED Certified Projects
California Closet Company, Inc., and Concord, CA franchise owner, Doug Dow, partnered with Mike McDonald, McDonald Construction & Development, to install 6 custom home storage solutions in the Margarido House, an award-winning home in Oakland, CA that exemplifies outstanding, sustainable design. The Margarido House is the first home in the country to be both LEED-H certified and Greenpoint Rated.
Mike McDonald chose California Closets to install an entry reach-in closet, a master suite walk-in closet, fully customized media center, kid's stair cubbies that function as a mudroom and a place for their two young children to learn about putting their belongs away "all by themselves". A custom garage with storage for Mike's abundance of tools, hockey equipment, children's toys, and garden equipment was installed with plenty of room for growth. In addition to a fully functional work area, the garage features a craft work space for gift wrapping, arts, and other projects that keep the mess outside of the home.
Currently, work is scheduled for January, 2010, install on another LEED project, The Hillside Home, in Mill Valley, CA. Also a new LEED-H certified custom home, owner/architect Scott lee, selected California Closets to install a master suite walk-in, kid's playroom and reach-in closet, three hallway reach-in closets, and a garage in this spectacular multi-level home. Hillside is slated to be the first LEED-H certified home in Marin County and one of the first in Northern California. The LEED for Homes Rating System is the nationally recognized standard for green building administered by the US Green Building Council.
